Official Announcement of His Highness Sheikh Ahmed bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, appointed Honorary Patron of F2 World and Continental Championship of Powerboating

March 19th 2009, DUBAI, United Arab Emirates - His Highness Sheikh Ahmed bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Chairman of the UAE National Olympic Committee and son of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, UAE Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, has been gracious to officially accept the invitation to be Honorary Patron of the UIM F2 World and Continental Championship for Powerboating. This Patronage underpins the vision of sporting excellence in the UAE and provides many new opportunities to grow the sport Internationally, promoting the Emirates as a centre of excellence for sporting achievement.

"I am truly honoured for His Highness Sheikh Ahmed bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum to become our Patron. I am also extremely proud to be the first Emirati to be awarded this level of World Championship status, I do this for my country and to support the dedication of the competitors and to uphold the highest standards in World competition. We will have an excellent opportunity to inform the world about the UAE, and, create more opportunities for our young sportspeople" commented UIM F2 World Championship Promoter, Abdul Salam Fairooz.

The F2 World Championship is one of the most significant sporting tournaments in the calendar for World speed boats. It receives considerable media exposure through International television, Arabic and English media and the sporting body, UIM. The F2 World Championship starts in July in Europe, and will work its way throughout the world, with the final Grand Prix race event to be held in the United Arab Emirates mid December.

The F2 World Championship Grand Prix race events form an exciting platform for entertainment in many beautiful cities around the world, allowing many thousands of spectator's easy access to the sport. With competitors from over 15 countries represented, It is one of the most important programs to promote trade and travel around the world and engage with young sports people from all nationalities.

As a young Arab business and cultural leader, His Highness Sheikh Ahmed bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum is also Chairman of the Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Foundation. He is very talented sportsman, passionate about horse riding and horse racing; he has led the UAE in several championships and won the Endurance World Cup in Spain.

The UIM is the sole governing body of International Powerboating, recognised by the International Olympic Comitte also a member of GAISF (General Association of International Sports Federations) and ARISF (Association of IOC Recognized International Sports Federations).
