Bahrain Takes on the UIM F2 World & Continental Championship
The first round in a series of event

Al Manamah, Bahrain; 25 August, 2009: Abdul Salam Fairooz, Managing Director of Formula World Sports and organizer and promoter of the UIM F2 World & Continental Powerboat Championship 2009, announced today the launch of the first round of the UIM F2 World & Continental Powerboat Championship 2009 which will be held in the Amwaj Marina at the prominent Amwaj -Islands Kingdom of Bahrain on October 15th -16th ,2009.

The announcement was made in a press conference attended by H.E Shaikh Khalifah Bin Abdulla Al Khalifah, Bahrain Water Sports Federation President, Gordon Sutherland, UIM Race director & Commissioner, Martin Kay, Chief Executive Officer of Ossis B.S.C. (C) – Amwaj Islands, and Ahmed Al Anzoor, representing Gulf Air, the official airline for the event

Mr. Fairooz said: “We are glad to announce the launch of the first round of UIM F2 World & Continental Powerboat Championship 2009. This international event will be held in the Bahrain Amwaj Islands which has provided all the required facilitates for a successful event. We have chosen Bahrain for its geographical location as an island, the facilities are up to the international standards to accomplish the best results, and the enthusiasm and support we have already received from the Bahrain Water sports Federation.”

Speaking at the press conference, Mr. Martin Kay, CEO Ossis – Amwaj Islands said “We are delighted that Formula World Sports has selected Amwaj Islands as the location of choice for the Bahrain 2009 UIM F2 World Championship in October and we feel sure that they will find this an ideal setting to attract both residents and visitors alike.”

He further commented, “The event will be based at Amwaj Marina, where we recently held the first Bahrain Boat Show International in April this year. That show was a tremendous success and we are positive that with the experience and expertise that Formula World Sports brings to bear this will be yet another very successful event in Amwaj Islands.”

Mr. Fairooz also expressed his gratitude to the government of Kingdom of Bahrain headed by H.H Shaikh Hamad bin Issa Al Khalifa, King of Bahrain and H.H Shaikh Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince for his direct support and directives to provide all the facilities needed to achieve international accomplishments.

Mr. Fairooz also extended his thanks to H.E Khalifa bin Doaaj Al Khalifa, Head of the Diwan of H.H the Crown Prince, for his on-going support and follow up on the status of the international event, “We are also delighted with the sponsors on board for this event including GGICO, Gulf Air, and Amwaj Islands. I also have to express my complete appreciation for the trust the Union International Motonautique (U.I.M), Bahrain Water Sports Federation and the UAE National Olympic Committee, have put in Formula World Sports and myself to organize and promote the championship.

Mr. Fairooz also highlighted the importance of H.H Sheikh Ahmad Bin Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, President of the UAE National Olympic committee, and Honorary President of the UIM F2 World & Continent Powerboat Championship 2009, support for national human resources and establishments in organizing international events, “Finally, I would like to congratulate Venture Communications for its continuous media & communications support. Venture efforts had a huge impact on elevating the championship to new levels and with no limits.”

The UAE National is the managing director of Formula World Sports and has been involved in the sport for almost 15 years both as a driver and as a promoter. Fairooz was awarded by the Union International Motonautique or U.I.M the rights to promote the UIM F2 World and Continental Championships for three years.

Formula 2 boats are equipped with 2-liter stock engines generating 200 HP and speeds up to 200 km/h. Hulls of Formula 2 boats reach a minimum length of 4.8 meters and minimum weight of 513 kg, which includes the driver. Due to their specially designed tunnel hulls, Formula 2 boats are able to turn almost instantaneously incurring more G forces than any other racing machine on the planet.

The UIM is the international governing body of power boating. It is recognized by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and is also a member of the General Association of International Sports Federations and the Association of the IOC-Recognized International Sports Federations.
